Zug RC I vs. Grasshoppers RC II

After a 4 week break between games we finally got back to the business end of things and had our second last game in the C Plus league.

In the first 20 minutes of the game things were pretty even between the two sides, but after a well-played couple of minutes, Brandon has scored a fantastic try in the corner and got Zug on the score card. Not long after the first try and again playing according to our strong points, Cullum who played winger and not his natural position as flanker, scored a great try and we were up 10-0 at half time.

The second half started and we have lost concentration and started to play very loose and disorganised, GC started to push us to the limits and after we kept on conceding penalty after penalty they finally were given a penalty try and the score went to 10-7 and things started to heat up and there were a couple of dirty plays and off the ball communication but were kept under control. Zug has finally started to pay structured rugby and were rewarded with a penalty right in front of the sticks and 22m out with Antoine making no mistake and the score went up 13-7 for us.

GC kept on hitting us at all angles but the defence held up and we managed to work ourselves back to their 22m area and with another strong break and great read of the play Brandon darted over the white wash and scored under the posts with Antoine converting and the score up to 20-7 and the game seems to be in the bag with 15 minutes to go.

GC refused to give up and came back all guns blazing and scored a try without a conversion and the score down to 20-12 in our favour. 10 Minutes to go and the nerves are creeping in as GC refused to give up and were camping in our red zone most of the remaining time, there number nine managed to get hold of the ball and dived for the try but dropped the ball on the try line and we have the 5 meter scrum, GC managed to push us off the ball and after a scramble and losing the ball in the try zone GC’s 9 fell on the ball and try given, thanks to us their conversion was wide and the score is up to 20-17 and to the relief for all the Zug supporters the final whistle went and we managed to scrape through with a victory.

The game in general was a hard played game and we were lucky to get away with a win and have a lot of hard work to do in the coming week if we want to win against Solothurn and then it will be off to the play off for the change to get promoted to the B league for next season.
